Johnstown, PA (February 28, 2024) – Nearly 600 child care providers downloaded 5,202 free lesson plans last summer, saving already short-staffed teachers hundreds of hours in lesson planning and ensuring high-quality learning for 39,971 children statewide. Child care and youth-serving organizations can access Best Day Ever! at no cost again this summer with 11 weeks of all-new lesson plans for preschool and school-aged children.
The Learning Lamp developed Best Day Ever! to reduce the burden of staffing shortages and rising costs for child care programs. Lessons are easy to access, use readily available, affordable materials, and come aligned with PA Academic and Early Learning standards. Participants in the 2023 FREE PA summer trial were beyond appreciative.
“Thank you so much for these,” said Trisha Kijek, Director of Bethany Preschool and School Age Care in Ephrata, PA. “My staff used the summer plans and loved them. It was a blessing because we were short-staffed and lesson planning was hard to come by.”
The plans are offered in week-long themed units: 11 preschool and 11 school-age lesson plans are available now to summer programs in Pennsylvania at no cost. The lessons were written and tested by The Learning Lamp’s own teachers. A leading provider of out-of-school time learning in south-central Pennsylvania, The Learning Lamp will share all Best Day Ever! units for FREE through August 2024.
“All lessons are STEAM-based and age-appropriate. Activities incorporate science, reading, art, and social-emotional learning,” said Leah Spangler, Ed.D., president and CEO of The Learning Lamp. “For those providers who need it, a daily schedule is clearly outlined and easy to follow. For providers who want some flexibility, lesson plans leave room for adaptation. Best Day Ever! can help any teacher regardless of where they’re located.”
Since 2006, teachers at The Learning Lamp have created their own lessons plans for summer camp. In recent years, each teacher would focus on one or two weeks and share the plans across all programs. Best Day Ever! grew from that process. In exchange for free access to Best Day Ever!, The Learning Lamp invites participating organizations to provide feedback and recommendations through a survey for each lesson they use. When a survey is completed, the user will be automatically entered into a drawing to win one of two $100 Amazon gift cards at the end of the summer.
