Grant Brings Life-Saving Equipment, Services to Early Learning Providers

Posted on February 1, 2022

Johnstown, PA (January 25, 2022) – The Learning Lamp is stepping up its efforts to ensure the health and safety of staff, visitors and children served throughout a region-wide alliance of child care providers with the help of a recent grant award from Community Foundation for the Alleghenies. The foundation awarded the organization a $3,800 grant with funding from the Benjamin Bosler Fund, Penelec Fund for the Future of Greater Johnstown, and John and Grace Strachan Fund.

The grant enabled The Learning Lamp to install an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) at its main office at 2025 Bedford Street in Johnstown. The building is also home to IndentoGO Identity Services, which provided fingerprinting for more than 4,000 community members in 2021. Access to an AED can save up to 10,000 lives annually if someone goes into cardiac arrest.

The grant was also instrumental in expanding opportunities for CPR certification for individuals working in the child care field. The Learning Lamp operates 25 licensed child care centers and supports many more through its Southern Alleghenies Early Childhood Education (ECE) Shared Services Alliance. CPR training is a frequent offering at the organization’s main office.

The grant also funded the addition of two sets of adult and infant mannequins, which will allow The Learning Lamp’s three certified instructors to provide CPR instruction for up to 24 participants at a time—a valuable resource for 35 Alliance members in ten counties to ensure all staff are CPR certified. For more information about The Learning Lamp’s CPR services, visit: www.thelearninglamp.org or call Kristi at 814-262-0732, x231.
