Teacher Qualifications and Curriculum

We believe the quality of our child care is only as good as our directors, teachers and curriculum.

That’s why …

  • Every Center for Children is led by a child care director with a degree in early childhood education, elementary education, or child development.
  • Most members of our support staff hold a two-year degree or higher in child development or a related field.
  • We seek out warm, caring individuals who want to teach in an early learning environment.
  • We offer our standards-based preschool program at all child care locations at no additional charge. Preschool teachers also hold degrees in early childhood education or child development.

Research-Based Curricula

Our curriculum, Kaplan Learn Every Day, is a literacy-based curriculum that is designed to teach the pre-reading skills children need to succeed in kindergarten and beyond. It is aligned with Pennsylvania’s Early Learning Standards and is approved by Keystone STARS.

We also integrate Hands On Standards Math for Early Learners and KidWriting into our preschool classrooms, as well as Second Step Social Emotional curriculum, Haggerty Phonemic Awareness instruction, and Handwriting Without Tears. We also offer a stimulating and educational environment for infants and young toddlers, and supervised homework help for school-age children.

Our Infant and Toddler programs use Building Strong Foundations for Infants, Toddlers and Twos from Kaplan Learn Every Day to plan daily activities for the children.

Programs that Meet the Highest Standards

These and other efforts have helped The Learning Lamp child care centers meet the rigorous standards of Pennsylvania’s Keystone STARS quality child care initiative. In 2016, The Learning Lamp Center for Children in Richland earned national accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

NAEYC accreditation is considered the gold standard for early childhood programs.
