Meet two brothers that you have helped…Evan and Charles.
Bruce Burns is the sole caretaker of his two grandsons, Evan, 7, and Charles, 6. He received custody of the boys after their mother abandoned them as infants; the boys’ father, Bruce’s son, was mentally incapable of caring for them. The three of them live on a fixed income due to a severe disability that leaves Bruce unable to work.
Bruce cares for the boys as best he can, but not everything comes easily. His older grandson, Evan, struggled in kindergarten. “He was stuck in a standstill,” Bruce explained. “He wasn’t comprehending what was being taught.” When teachers suggested placing Evan in special education classes, Bruce knew he had to do something.
After hearing good things about The Learning Lamp, Bruce registered Evan for tutoring. Because of Bruce’s income, The Learning Lamp was able to offer Evan scholarship money that paid for a year’s worth of tutoring. After working with his tutor, Evan was able to pull up his grades.
The success Evan experienced with The Learning Lamp motivated Bruce to enroll Charles in tutoring sessions, as well. Knowing the issues that Evan faced as a kindergartner, he wanted to ensure that Charles was prepared. After tutoring with The Learning Lamp, he’s now at pace with his peers.
“I credit it all to The Learning Lamp,” said Bruce. “It couldn’t have happened without their help.”
